LOOKING INTO THE GARAGE

This photo taken from outside the garage looking in, we see the harbor on the left loop and St Louis and the circus on the right side loop. The background goes all the way around, and is lit up by hidden flourescent lights. Back

#1
THE HARBOR

This is looking into the left side of garage at the harbor with docks and boats. The walls are cardboard and nailed to the sides of the wood. The HO outside loop is winding up into the tunnel along with the inside loop. above that is the N scale loop going into the tunnel below the Z scale layout, which is still in the blue styrofoam stage. Back

#2
THE BAY

This is looking at a bay and a canyon in HO scale. Beyond that is the Sunset Strip in N scale, and above that, still in blue styrofoam stage, is Hollywood. Back

#3
CALIFORNIA

Standing on a step stool, we see all of the California Loop. Laguna Beach in front, Hollywood in the back. The bay is just to the left and the harbor is hidden just over the hill. The garage door is closed and has an insulation back. There are 3 pullout sections here. The hole at the right is already pulled out. Canyon at the left pulls out, and the section behind the castle and just in front of the blue layout also pulls out. This allows easy upclose working on all parts of the layout. Back

#4
LAGUNA BEACH

Moving down to eye level, we see a similiar view of California. Laguna Beach is at the bottom right, with the rocks and cliffs at the left. Hollywood is the Z scale blue styrofoam layout in the back. Back

#5
MIDDLE, EAST WALL

Looking straight East, we see the right side of Laguna Beach (white) leading to the nonworking HO turntable with a building sitting on it. Above that is the N scale line, winding around a small mountain, and above that is the Z scale line, winding around the same small hill. The walls are all cardboard, nailed to the wood. Back

#6
ROCKY MOUNTAIN CORNER

This is looking into the southeast corner, the Rock Mountain corner. The HO yard begins at the bottom, the N scale yard in across the middle, and the Z scale removable layout is still in blue styrofoam at the top. Back

#7
ROCKY MOUNTAIN Z

This is a closeup of the Rocky Mountain Z scale layout in the southwest corner of the room. It is still in the blue styrofoam stage in this photo. Back

#9
DOWNTOWN, NEW YORK CITY

This view is looking into the SouthWest corner at Downtown. It's all HO scale here, with the N scale line hidden behind the buildings. At the bottom is where the yard starts, and curves into the main outside line. There are two levels of HO. Note the Walthers flat cardboard buildings and backgrounds. Back

#10
UNION STATION

Looking straight west into the front porch of the main Union Station, we see the right side of downtown on the left and the front of the outside loop at the bottom. The layout here is all HO scale. The N is hidden behind buildings and the Z still unconceived. Back

#11
MIDWEST CURVE

Moving down the line, we see the layout curve into the big St. Louis loop. Back

#12
LOWER ST. LOUIS

Here's the HO scale lower St Louis, with the downtown St. Louis on the upper level in N scale. Bigfoot lake is a pullout section. Back

#13
ST. LOUIS AND LAKE

Again, HO lower St. Louis, Bigfoot Lake, and N scale upper St. Louis. Back

#14
BIG FOOT LAKE

Again, HO lower St. Louis, Bigfoot Lake, and N scale upper St. Louis. Back

#15
THE FAIR COMES TO ST. LOUIS

Here we can see the merry go round of the state fair on the right. It's N scale up there, with the lower HO scale loops dissappearing into the tunnel underneath the N layout. Back

#16
THE CIRCUS, ST. LOUIS, & N.Y.

Here we can see the entire circus/state fair in N scale, and all the way down the wall to New York City in the far distance. Yep, that's Bigfoot Lake on the left. Back

CONTROL PANEL

A straight on photo showing the HO scale control panel with two lines, (inside and outside) and the N scale control panel above that with only one line. both the HO and N layouts are simple dogbones (loops on each end). Back

THE PODIUM

This picture shows the podium, upon which are the control panels. This podium was built for our annual Rock City News awards show, but works in the railroad the rest of the time. It can be easily pulled out, leaving all the inside power units and bare wires visable and hanging from the frame. When in use, the wires are hooked to the podium and the frame is completely free, so that movement from the supporting frame (with hand rails) does not move the podium or control panels. Back

THE CONTROL TOWER

This shows the center-of-the-room tower with the step up and the shelf of cars and benchtop. This allows the controler a better view of switches and turnouts looking down on the layout. 2 or 3 people can easily stand on the tower, which is about 3 feet tall. About 20 people can move in a circle around the tower, with a wide entrance to the backyard (provided both garage doors are open). Back
