Lighting - Rock City Railroad
The lighting on the Rock City Layout is quite extensive. I've kept improving is as I go. When you look at something for a long time (years) you begin to appreciate the lighing on it.

I built wood down from the ceiling to hide the lights all the way around. They're about 2 feet out from the wall. Behind them are two solid rows of 4 foot florescent fixtures. That's 20 fixtures (40 florescent bulbs) These fixtures are only $8.98 each at home depot. I took out the "cool white" bulbs and put in those orange-ish "very warm" bulbs. They cost more but the warmth makes the entire room warm and friendlier. I decided to do this when I noticed people feeling selfconcious under the florescent lights. I actually put in some "daylight" bulbs for highlights under the city, which brings out the blue sky and the details. Half of the lights are on one switch so the lights can be dimmed or brighted by turning on the other half. some of the fixtures have light orange gels taped over them to give warmth. They also make girls look better if they have makeup on.

I also have a lot of regular spot lights, track lights, and flood lights all the way around to highlight certain areas of the layout.
