RAILROAD DESIGN
The Rock City Railroad layout was designed to go around the inside of the two car garage, a huge dogbone with loops on both sides. It is multi scale with
HO Scale in the foreground,
N Scale in the middle,
Z Scale in the back.
The actual countryside/ cityside/ oceanside/ mountainside/ lakeside terrain landscaping layout will be discussed later, but for now, here's the main features:
- Easy wide entrance with out having to duck under anything
- HO Scale main layout, with N scale in the middle and Z scale in the back, giving it a forced perspective of depth and distance
- Two seperate HO main lines, the inside line and the outside line. This allows two separate trains to operate without ever worrying about them colliding. It can also be configured to be one long continous loop.
- Good height from floor so trains and layout are at eye level
- Center of room control panel, allowing upclose viewing and movement around the entire layout
- Six sidings in the yard (more to come later) with entrances and drilling track on both sides, and from both the inside line and the outside line.
- Reverse lines (as opposed to reverse loops) for both of the main lines and going in either directions, and the ability to change main lines while reversing.
- The ability to turn the two main lines into one long continous mainline, without any crossings.
- The ability to entertain 10 to 20 people or more comfortably without congestion.
