 Beach Information

Special Comments:
Del Mar Dog Beach, also known as North Beach to Del Mar locals, is just north of the San Dieguito River mouth within the James Scripps Bluff Reserve. It is North County's only dog-friendly beach.

Pay close attention to the beach regulations. From Sept. 15-June 15, dogs are permitted off leash from Via de la Valle south to 27th Street but must be under voice command. In summer (June 15-Sept. 15), dogs must be on a leash 6 feet or less in length.

One disadvantage of the river-mouth location is that Del Mar Dog Beach is subject to pollution closures due to urban runoff during the rainy winter months. Call ahead for pollution closure information.

Food/dining:
The nearest restaurant is the Brigantine at Camino Del Mar and Via De La Valle, where during racing season diners can enjoy fine cuisine on the balcony and get a great view of the horses running at Del Mar. Additional restaurants are located along Camino Del Mar south of 15th Street or in Solana Beach.

Restrooms:
Portable toilets are available at 25th Street and at Dog Beach.
