Special Comments:
The Bird Rock region of La Jolla is a rocky stretch of beach lined with million-dollar homes and a few small, quiet parks and vista points. There is very little to see from an automobile because houses block most of the view from the street; but a short walk to one of the parks or vistas will reward visitors with a spectacular view of the beautiful houses overlooking the many reefs and small coves of the rugged shoreline.

The parks at Bird Rock, which include La Jolla Hermosa Park at the intersection of Camino de la Costa and Chelsea Avenue, and Calumet Park on Calumet Avenue at Colima Court, offer minimal public facilities limited to several picnic tables and no restrooms.

The tradeoff, however, is that these parks tend to be very quiet and uncrowded — a great place for an afternoon picnic.

There are access stairs to the shoreline at the North Bird Rock vista point on Camino de la Costa between Avenida Cresta and Avenida Cortez, and another set of stairs at the foot of Bird Rock Avenue. There is no beach in the area to speak of but at low tide the tidepools are excellent. The shoreline is rocky and rugged, so use caution.

Food/dining:
There are several moderately priced restaurants along La Jolla Boulevard between Bird Rock Avenue and Colima Street. On the inexpensive side is the Bahia Don Bravo, which serves very authentic border-style Mexican food.

Restrooms:
There are no public restrooms available in the Bird Rock Area.
