THE MISTAKES

at the Troubadour

By Sonja Van Lier

Well, it's Halloween at the Troubadour. The traffic was horrible because of the street parade, but it was worth checking out all the cool bands. I missed the first band Black Lurx but I'm sure they'll play again.
I've never actually watched EPOXY GLOW live before, but they're pretty good.
The best song of their set was "Fake Fur" off of the All That Glitters compilation put out by Sansei Records. The band is a three piece and they were all dressed up as the Spice Girls. Check 'em out!
SAMMY SERIOUS was next. He started out with "State of Depression", one of his new songs off of his new release, The Doctor Will See You Now. Other songs he played were "In Brain Fame", the cool "A.K.K.", "Thanks Alot Guys", and "Who Is It".
REVL'ON RED hit the stage next, though tonight known as Revl'on Dead. "Suicide City" was the first song that got the crowd going. The band's faces were painted as skulls. Other songs they did were "High Class Trash", the Specimen song "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", (which made the crowd even wilder), "Sexual Suicide", the Alice Cooper classic, "I Love The Dead", "Hollywood" and a never before heard song called "Brandy" sung by guitarist Richie Dagger where the whole band sat on the drum riser. The high light of the show was when Richie sang "The Monster Mash". "Free Your Head" was their last song and the end of their set.
One of my favorite bands hit the stage next, SPIDERS & SNAKES. The band consists of the legendary Lizzie Grey on lead vocals and guitars, Leigh Lawson on bass, Timothy Jay on drums, and Anthony on guitars. The Snakes started their set with "Rock and Roll Queen" followed by a Faces song called "Stay With Me". One of my favorite songs "The Way With Some Girls" was next. Lizzie has such a clear voice and I think he's got one of the best voices on the scene today! Other noteable songs of the night were "California Slide" (off of Arochnomania), "Glamour Girls", a new song called "Don't Know When To Stop", "Nuke The Sun", "Rollercoaster Ride", "So Alone", my personal favorite "The Good Times" and the last song of their set "Where Are The L.A. Jets". In the middle of their set Leigh took out his "Glitter Gun" and sprayed it all over everyone, including me! For anyone who hasn't seen this killer band yet, DO because they're the best!
FOXY ROXX was next. The band came out dressed up as colorful M & M's with matching saran wrap on their legs. They played my favorite song "I Don't Wanna Be A HomoSexual", "Everybody Wants", another one of my favorite tunes "Never Enough", "Saturday Night", "Mixed Up World", "Who Killed MTV", where singer Tony Starlin took out his bat and beat the MTV sign they had on stage. The band is Tony Starlin on vocals, Jerry Vayne on guitars, Bobby Soxx on bass, and Robby Tripp on drums. They also played "Beth". Check 'em out!
THE MISTAKES were on next and the last band. This time though they appeared as KISSTED SISTER. 1/2 as Kiss (Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley), and 1/2 as Twisted Sister. Toi Staci is the singer and was dressed up like his idol Dee Snider. The band played "Were Not Gonna Take It", "Angry Youth" and others. The band is Toi Staci on vocals, Keri on guitar, Chris on bass, and Jaime (formerly of Tuff) on drums. For a review on your pop or glam band, call me at (818) 759-7435. STAY GLAM BE COOL!!!
