BEER BONG
BEER BONG at McRed's

By G-Man

Outrageous. Hysterical. Weird. Scandalous. Delightfully demented. And just plain fun.

The Beer Bong amalgamated rolling rock revue is full of good blues licks, distorted guitars, crunching rhythms, and salacious lyrics. All of which is delivered by anywhere from seven to seventeen oddly-costumed party sluts who love making loud noises, quite a bit of them musical. Actually, it's difficult to tell where the group leaves off and the audience begins because it seemed like half the Valley showed up with some sort of percussion instrument to shake, rattle or bang along (even the bartender was clanging bells behind the counter). Jon Purpura (bassist in the ultra-crushing metal onslaught known as Driven By Hate) was just one of the celebrity guests in a kaleidoscopic presentation that threatened to burst the seams of the club and flow out into the street.

Then the other Beer Bong arrived and things got very trippy indeed. The other Beer Bong? A group of fans spent weeks putting together costumes, make-up and props to match those used by the band, so the club had an actual manifestation of double vision that was not induced by the special one-dollar kamikaze shooters. There was one Sheena Metal behind the mic and another cavorting around the tables. There was one Layfette Lixx stroking his Fender and another dancing through the audience. And so on through the twisted cast of characters that make up this floating ensemble. As Sheena noted, "It's like looking in a mirror. I keep wondering where I'm going."

While the Beer Bong Polka Tribute Band has yet to roll out its barrel, we'll confine ourselves to Sheena Metal's Beer Bong. SMBB plays originals that take the musical excesses of the eighties and screw with 'em until they yell for mercy. We're talking power chords, bad attitude, gravity-defying hair, and story-telling lyrics that celebrate the wrong side of the tracks and the far side of life. And since Beer Bong always provides Songbooks with complete lyrics, everyone can sing along with Bong.

For the record, Beer Bong is: Sheena Metal on vocals and audience taunting; Layfette Lixx on wicked blues-rock guitar; Kenny Keggar on evil metal-tinged guitar; Eager Edgar on bass explosions; Kriss Krash on drum explosions; Suzi Strat and Lexi LesPaul on sneering backing vocals; and Tasti Traci as the roving mailing-list pet. The next time they take over McRed's, grab a tambourine and join the festivities. They're freaky, wild, outlandish, and what they do on stage is still legal in most Western states.
